John W. Hudson, Director: As Sun Ranch Group (SRG) Managing Partner and Chief Financial Officer, John Hudson draws on strong conservation beliefs and values as he assists with the financial and strategic architecture of the group's transactions and manages daily oversight of Sun Ranch Group investments.
Drawn by his love of the mountain West, John has been a Montana resident off and on since the early 1990s, finally settling in Bozeman in 2001. He began his career by founding, managing, and orchestrating the sale of a real estate development firm. Upon receiving a Master's degree from Purdue University, he pursued a career in structured finance at Merrill Lynch. Prior to joining Sun Ranch Group, John supported multiple technology companies with many facets of product and portfolio management.
John holds a BS in Economics, a BS in Finance, and an MSM in Finance from Purdue University.
Roger A. Lang, Jr., President of the Board of Directors: Roger's professional experience spans a variety of high-tech and other industries. Upon graduating from Stanford with BA and MA, he co-founded a financial software company and worked as vice president of client services. In 1989, he founded and ran Infinity Financial Technology, which grew to become the world's leading supplier of derivatives trading and risk management software. As founder/CEO, he led Infinity through its IPO on Nasdaq in 1996, and its subsequent merger with SunGard Data Systems in 1998. Roger remained at SunGard until July 1999. He was named one of the 50 most influential people in the history of the financial risk management by the industry's flagship publication, Risk Magazine.
Subsequently, Roger moved to Montana, founded Cutthroat Communications, Inc. (www.cutthroatcom.com), a rural broadband services company for businesses; The Lodge at Sun Ranch (formerly Papoose Creek Lodge), an internationally award-winning ecolodge that adjoins Sun Ranch in Southwest Montana; and other Sun Ranch Group companies.
He currently sits on several boards of both for-profit and non-profit organizations. Roger holds a BA in Anthropology and MA in Latin American Studies from Stanford University, graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and speaks several languages.
Duncan Patten, Director: Duncan Patten is Research Professor with the Department of Land Resources and Environmental Sciences and affiliate faculty with the Big Sky Institute at Montana State University. He is also Professor Emeritus of Plant Biology and past director of the Center for Environmental Studies at Arizona State University. Dr. Patten received the A.B. degree from Amherst College, M.S. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and Ph.D. from Duke University. His research interests include arid and mountain ecosystems, especially the understanding of ecological processes of western riparian and wetland ecosystems. His research has also involved studies of ecosystem indicators of watershed condition including remote sensing of indicators, biocomplexity of natural and human system interactions in western rangelands, and conceptual modeling of national park ecosystems. He was Senior Scientist of the Bureau of Reclamation's Glen Canyon Environmental Studies, overseeing the research program evaluating effects of operations of Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River riverine ecosystem. Dr. Patten was founding president of the Arizona Riparian Council, president of the Society of Wetland Scientists, and Business Manager of the Ecological Society of America. He is a Fellow of the AAAS, has been a member of several NAS/NRC committees, boards and commissions. He has been involved with the Heinz Center on the "State of the Nation's Ecosystems" project and serves on an Independent Science Board guiding restoration and science for the California Bay Delta Authority river/water/levee programs. He recently has been appointed to EPA's Science Advisory Board.
Jeremy Roberts, Program Manager: Jeremy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology from the Wildlife Honors Program at the University of Montana in Missoula. He graduated with honors and is proud to be both a Morris K. Udall and Barry M. Goldwater Scholar. Jeremy is currently an MFA candidate at Montana State University in Bozeman.
Jeremy has worked in the biological field for nine years, first as a biological technician and later as a contract biologist. He has worked in a diverse array of biological disciplines, including botany, entomology, mammalogy, and ornithology. He has worked for numerous universities, federal agencies, non-profit bird observatories, and environmental consulting firms. Jeremy conducts annual surveys for the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, and has been the Northern Rockies Regional Editor for the North American Butterfly Association since 2006.

Amy Robinson, Program Manager: Amy brings several years of experience working in the non-profit sector and the hospitality industry. Over several years, she has acquired deep knowledge as well as affection for rural Montana communities. Amy holds a BA in Social Work from Western Washington University, and has spent several years living in Montana and abroad since graduation. She enjoys exploring rivers and mountains, along with Nordic-skiing and baking bread.

Joshua Spitzer, Executive Director: Josh has served as an independent consultant to enterprises and individuals investing to create social, environmental, and financial value. The World Economic Forum, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Oxford University, and Stanford University Graduate School of Business have sponsored and published his work. He has also developed MBA curricula for the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.
Josh holds an MBA from Stanford's Graduate School of Business and a BA from Cornell University.
