Ranchlands remain important havens of wildlife habitat and rural culture. Opening them to educators and students helps protect ecosystems and rural communities.
SRI helps educators gain access to ranchlands, where their students can learn about western heritage, agriculture, natural history, and the many other lessons that these properties-and the people who live and work there-can teach. We also help develop curricula based on lessons learned across all of our program areas.
The Institute also uses these unique ranchlands to integrate new and long-time residents of rural communities. SRI focuses on educating new residents about the landscape and lifestyles surrounding their new homes. We hope to support and create forums where new and long-time residents get to know and understand one another. When residents from diverse backgrounds arrive in the same rural community, education programs can create mutual understanding and collaboration.
Ultimately, our mandate to share our work and make it useful to others places education at the heart of all our projects.
